AIRBORNE MAINTENANCE & ENGINEERING SERVICES MARKS 100 DAYS
Business Growth and Customer Satisfaction Highlights Milestone
WILMINGTON, Ohio - August 19, 2009 – Airborne Maintenance & Engineering Services (AMES), a full service aircraft maintenance and engineering company offering routine support of line and heavy maintenance, as well as component repair, overhaul, and specialized services including flight deck upgrades and airframe modifications, marked its 100th day in operation by highlighting its significant accomplishments.
“We have been in the industry for 29 years under ABX Air and are building on that knowledge as an independent subsidiary,” said AMES General Manager Brady Templeton. “We know what it means to plan on an aircraft being ready on a specific date and to have access to component repairs quickly. We now offer that kind of service to customers worldwide.”
During the first 100 days as an independent subsidiary, AMES attained the following milestones:
- Completed fifteen heavy maintenance checks on a wide range of aircraft including DC-9s, Boeing 727s, 757s and 767s.
- Accommodated the DHL hub move to the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport, providing line maintenance technicians and support staff on site to handle the nightly aircraft operational support.
- Achieved a near 10 percent increase of part purchases as demand by new customers rose nearly 60 percent. As an ASA-100 accredited supplier, AMES has over 52,000 consigned line items for sale. The company has procured 98 percent of the tooling requirements for Boeing 727 aircraft, 95 percent for Boeing 757 aircraft and 30 percent tooling for Boeing 737 aircraft.
- Completed over 1,100 component repairs and put in place a sales strategy focused on selling machine shop capabilities beyond the aviation industry.
- Fabricated more than 25 kits for flight deck retrofit on various aircraft including the installation of a flight deck renovation on a B-757 which incorporated the installation of a Flat Panel Display System. AMES has four FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER) on staff, which enables the company to do the retrofits.
- Achieved EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) approval enabling the company to do business with European operators.
- Managed 13 audits by customers and FAA representatives.
- Completed 9,000 hours of classroom instruction on the Boeing 727, Boeing 737 and Boeing 757.
Currently AMES employs 374 licensed aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, analysts, trainers, auditors, and support personnel, and has more than 100 positions open delivering on its promises to provide local employment after ABX Air’s restructuring due to the reduced demands of its then primary customer, DHL. The Company offers two options for medical health care coverage, dental and vision insurance, short and long-term disability, a paid time off program, a 401k program, as well as additional benefits.
“We were fortunate to receive support from the State of Ohio when we opened back in May,” said Templeton. “We were able to utilize this funding for on-the-job training being offered to displaced Air Park employees.”
The AMES web site – www.airbornemx.com – showcases its capabilities, complete with lists of services and contact numbers. Additionally, all applications for AMES open positions are taken on-line. Prospective employees can browse the site, find out more about AMES and send their applications in for consideration.
“We offer a professional environment and value our relationships with our customers, our employees, and our vendors,” said Templeton. “Honest two-way communication and an emphasis on teamwork and quality are helping us to develop great teams and businesses to support the worldwide aircraft industry.”
